What is your business history?

While Find-a-Builder records an extensive background history on all of our builders, it can still be beneficial to ask the builders if they have any examples of their past work, and if they have any references or testimonials to support them.  This question may also help you choose a builder that suits the style of work you desire for your build.

Can you give me a timeline?

In the construction business, time is everything.  Ask if they can give you a detailed overview, so you will be clearly able to track where they are throughout the build.  Don’t be afraid to ask for this in writing, or perhaps included in the contract.

Do I need to put down a deposit?

Depending on the type of work your require, some companies may request an initial deposit for their work before the final payment.

What happens if the plans need to be modified?

It is well worth asking if there is a clause in the contract if either yourself or the builder wants/needs to change any aspect of the initial plan.

Is your team responsible for cleaning?

This sounds like an obscure question, but it can often be useful to ask the builders if they will continually clean after themselves.  This is especially important in a residential property, where you may still be living during the build.
